Giuliano Gemma october 2013, Ciao dear, old Ringo !!!

Today’s page is exceptionally dedicated to Giuliano Gemma who suddenly left us at the age of 75. The Roman actor starred in many movies , especially spaghetti western, which in the 60s made the Italian movie industry famous all over the world, meaning that it had no longer be so highly regarded if only   directed by Fellini or Antonioni.

“I remember, as a boy, passing  entire afternoons  at essay cinemas, imagining to live in an other era where  bandits and redskins faught against one another and then applauded when the good guys came to defeat the bad guys”.

Goodbye Giuliano, or  Ciao Giuliano, I am sure that you are now riding together with your friends John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Gian Maria Volontè and lots of others  on the blue  prairy in the sky.

A short biography:

Giuliano Gemma started working for the movie industry since he was a young man, thanks to his physique-du-role he was engaged as a stuntman  and later noted for his beauty and got roles  in many movies such as “Venezia, la luna e tu”, ”Ben Hur”, “The Titans”, “Il Gattopardo”, “Angelica" e "Angelica alla Corte del Re”.

With Spaghetti Western made its exploite he was consecrated as a divo,  starring in “Una Pistola Per Ringo”, “Il Ritorno di Ringo”, “Adiòs Gringo”, “Un Dollaro Bucato”, “ I lunghi giorni della vendetta”, “ Per pochi dollari ancora”, and  “I giorni dell’Ira” which were  all great hit movies. We should add to his filmography of the time, that Giuliano acted with  the pseudonym Mongtomery Wood.

He also starred with  Bud Spencer  in ”Anche gli angeli mangiano fagioli” and goes back to the genre, starring with  Ricky Bruch, in “Anche gli angeli tirano di destro”.

Giuliano also starred in  hard-task movies  such as “Il Deserto dei Tartari” directed by Valerio Zurlini, one of his most convincing performances,  and “Il Prefetto di Ferro”  by Pasquale Squitieri. He also gave proof of his dramaticity in “Un uomo in ginocchio” by Damiano Damiani  in 1979.

In the 80s we wish to underline his starring in ”Tenebre”  directed by Dario Argento and “Speriamo che sia Femmina” directed by the great Mario Monicelli.

By the end of the eightieis, he mostly worked for the Italian television.

We can legitimately say that Giuliano Gemma starred in more than one hundred movies, won prestigious awards such as David di Donatello,  Festival Internazionale of Karlovy Vary  as best best actor, the Golden Globe, The Nastro d’Argento and for three times the Premio De Sica Award.
